Task 50- Ideas for for the digipak and the homepage

Task 48- Ancillary Text 1- Digipaks

Ancillary Text 1-Digipak

Artist: Adele
Album:19

Central Image
The central image of the digipak is the artist's face.

Fonts
We can see that for the text of the artist's name, the font is very similar to Times New Roman font. The 19 on the album art looks sort of hand drawn. Also the tracklist also seems to follow the hand drawn type of font.

Colour
The album uses dark colours for the background and the artist's name is in white and the hand written text in in a light brown/beige colour.

Institutional Information
On the back of the digipak we can see the logo of the record label Adele is with. We can also see in small white text about the copyright of the album and the year the album was released in Roman numerals.

Artist: Florence and the Machine
Album: How big how blue how beautiful

Central Image
We can see that the main feature of this album is the artist, Florence.

Fonts
The fonts used on the this digipak are all in uppercase and the font looks very simplistic.

Colour
The main colour of the digipak is white and we can see that the colour of the text is black or grey.

Institutional Information
Similar to Adele's album, we can see that the logo of the record label on the front of the digipak and the back of the digipak as well. There is also information regarding the the year the album was released and the copyright information by the record label.

Artist: Amy Winehouse
Album: Back to black

Central Image
The central image of the album is the artist, Amy Winehouse. We see her sitting on a wooden chair and behind her is a massive chalkboard.

Font
For the artist's name and the album name, we can see a sort of futuristic type of font with lines after every letter. The back of the the digipak which includes the tracklist has a very basic type of font but is placed in an angle.

Colour
The colour of the fonts are all in white. The main colour of the digipak is in a denim blue.

Institutional Information
We can see on the back of the digipak that the logo of the record label is there and again, the information regarding copyright is also there.

Proof of editing

Production- Alexandra Palace Filming

When we filmed at Ally Pally, quite a lot went well. We managed to get multiple location shots and still shots of our artists. We also managed to get drone footage which produced high-quality footage. A problem we had when filiming at Ally Pally was that we didn't get the base tracks recorded fully. We only managed to get the first part of the base tracks due to time constraints.

Task 18 - Analysis of Digipak of "Adele21"

Front of the digipak

On the front of the digipak for Adele's album '21', the album in which our song 'Set fire to the rain' is on, we can spot many things. Firstly, we can see the main feature of the digipak is a picture of adele herself which also has a black and white filter. We can also see in the bottom left of the album that there is the artist's name and the title of the album.

Back of the digipak

On the back of the digipak we can see many things. We can again see another picture of Adele. We also see a full tracklist of the album. We also see the record label, some text about copyright and the barcode used to sell it.

Changes we made to the music video plans-

Originally, we had many ideas for our music video but due to time constraints and other factors, we decided to make changes which differed to some of the ideas we had originally come up with.

For example:

  • Story: We intended to have a story in our music video which involved a girl realising her boyfriend is cheating on her. This eventually leaded her to snap and break a frame with a picture of her and her boyfriend. We decided to ditch this idea because we couldn't find a place where this type of story would fit with the lyrics of the song.

  • Location: Stratford, more specifically Westfield. We didn't include shots of the Stratford area as the scenery of that location did not suit or fit with the song. So because of this, we decided to remove it from the the music video.

  • Usage of Drums: I was originally going to play drums in this video as I do play drums and we can hear throughout the song, a use of drums. Instead, I decided to change my role from playing drums to playing the piano. This is because the first thing you hear from the song is the piano. I felt that a piano suited the music video more, therefore I play the piano in the music video instead.

Task 44- Improvements For Final Deadline

From feedback, I learnt that me and my group needed to make some adjustments to our video so that we could make it the best that we could. I learnt that some improvements the music video needed were:

  • Structure of the video: From feedback, I was told that the video looked kind of messy because there would be shots of our artist singing in Alexandra Palace and in the next shot, she would be in St.Pauls.
  • Majority of the shots that were filmed from an angle were most likely filmed from the artist's left side and there was not a balance with that.
With this information, I knew what had to be changed in the music video.

Reflection On the The music video

Reflection on the music video

When I was at the screening of the music videos at the cinema and I saw my group come up. I felt pretty nervous as I had only seen the full video once prior to the screening. Looking at the video now, I feel really proud to say that that is something that I produced. Because me and my group used our own camera, the quality of the music video was outstanding. I also was happy to see the drone shots coming out perfect as we had some issues with the shot as the resolution of the video wasn't high but they came out looking great. Also at the end of the music video, we got many cheers and claps and I was getting compliments from other group members for using a drone which was unique as no one else had a drone. So overall, I think that it was great.

Reflection on my planning

Reflection on Planning

I think that my planning for the music video also went well. This is evident from the pitch that I did along with my group which we presented to other class members. I also took feedback from the class and made some adjustments to my music video plan which I also believe shows that I did well on planning the video for example. Me and my group updated the storyboards in our video due to changes from our old storyboard which me and my group felt didn't suit the video properly.
Below are screenshots of the old storyboard and the new.

Reflection on my research

Reflection

I believe that I'm making quite a lot of progress on researching about our proposed idea for a music video on the song 'Set fire to the rain'. I think that I have really searched deep into what conventions the music video I will produce needs to follow such as synergy. For example, below is a screenshot of my work I did on the synergy task.

I believe that I did well on this task as I used a variety of technology such as pictures, videos and even my own GIF's that I created.

So overall, I believe my research into the music video went well and was good.

Feedback for filming and editing

The week before the deadline, my group and I had received some feedback. We were told that we took too much of our time in lesson when we actually should have been editing instead. We were told in a phrase that: We have too much icing on our cake and the cake isn't even baked yet. This meant that instead of re-shooting certain scenes, we should edit the scenes to see how it looks then we could reconsider if we need to edit. The feedback helped us reflect that now we just needed to edit and stop filming in order to achieve our solid music video.

Piano Filming session

The week before the deadline, I went to film the beginning shot of our music video, this was the piano scene. It turned out very successful and looked like I was actually playing the piano. Of course I was just actually pressing random keys on the piano but overall, it looked very real.
