Hall of fame Analysis-Task 8

This is my review of the music video created by:
  • Jem Omer
  • Zakariya Chennane
  • Courtney Goddard
  • Fuzail Ismail

What I like about the music video is how usually every shot takes place in different locations but the people in the video remain in the same place. Another thing I like is the frequent costume changes. For example, we see them in suits, pyjamas, casual t-shirts and in hoodies. In addition, I also like the special effects used like when the shot changes, an effect is used to make it more eye-catching. Lastly I enjoy how the video cuts along with the beat and the video just flows with the song.

Although, I would have liked to see more of the story that the song was trying to tell as all I know is that there is a girl who this man likes and not that much else. But other than that, I thought the video was really good and it was engaging and that is why I enjoyed it.

Group analysis on costume, setting and props-Task 10

Rock Music Video
Green Day's "American Idiot"

Costume
In the music video of "American Idiot" we see the three members of the band. We see that the band is mainly wearing black clothing.

We can see the singer of the band, Billie Joe Armstrong; here wearing a black shirt and a red tie. We also see the bassist, Mike Dirnt wearing a black tank top and black jeans. Lastly we can see Tre Cool, the drummer of the band also wearing a black shirt.

We can say that these types of clothing fit with the genre because it is rock and some people may link rock to being dark. Also, Green Day is punk-rock and black is sometimes seen as a rebellious colour.

Setting
We can see that the music video takes place in some sort of warehouse with the massive USA flag behind them.

The setting of the song suits the song because we can see that the song talks about how "idiotic" America is so having a USA flag makes perfect sense.

Props
The main props used in this music video are the instruments. These include Guitars, bass, microphones and a drumkit. Also, there are cameras being used as props in the video as if the band knows that they're being recorded.

Pop Music Video
Adele's "Rolling in the deep"

Costume
In the video "Rolling in the deep" we can see that Adele is wearing a black clothing. She is wearing a black dress, black leggins and black high heels.. We can also see that the drummer included in this video is also wearing an all black attire.

They could be wearing black due to the meaning of the song about how they could of had something but lost out

Setting
The song seems to take place in a house. The house has many weird things inside it. For example there is a paper build of a city in one room and a room filled entirely with glasses of water.

I am not entirely sure why these things link to the music video but the video may be a form of disjuncture where the video has no relation with the music video.

Props
Props we can see being used in the video are the paper city, the drumkit and the pile of broken plates or mugs.

Rock Song
Blur's "Song 2"

Costume
In the music video for "Song 2" we can see that the musicians in the video wear quite scruffy clothing like t-shirts, jeans and hoodies.

They may be wearing clothes like this to stereotype that people who listen to rock music look scruffy.

Location
The video takes place in a room with a patterned wallpaper.

Props
In the video, the main props we see are the instruments, amplifiers and lighting equipment. We can also see that towards the end of the music video that some sort of smoke is used and newspapers are being blown.

Conclusion
What I can conclude from this task is that rock videos tend to have more simpler costumes, like with Blur for example. They were wearing clothes that seemed very casual but also scruffy. In pop videos, the artist prefer to be more "classy" and wear nicer clothes. We can see this in Adele's video. Also, rock videos also have simpler settings. Green Day's video took place in a sort of warehouse whereas Adele's took place in many, many rooms. Lastly, props and again, rock videos tend to just stick with the instruments and try to keep it simple with a few complex things like the smoke in Blur's video.

8. Hall Of Fame student review

This the think link to my favourite Hall Of Fame Student video - https://vimeo.com/114961464 (Emmanuel, Ariadna, Yuksel, Joshua)

This video is personally my favourite because it meets all the conventions of a music video right to its point. Features that really stood out to me were the jump cuts and the panning of the camera.

Another feature that I loved was how the shot was synchoronous with the lyrics. As he sung 'the other side...' the scene transitioned from the road to a room. Not only that, I loved how they presented this, They panned from one spot to the other and the continuity made it look very smooth.
